MEDITATION

"At the center of your being you have the answers; you know who you are and you know what you want"
Buddha

Meditation sounds like such a good idea but I don't think I can get my mind to be still." or "I would love to enjoy the benefits of meditation but I can't sit still that long....in fact I don't even have the time to try!" and finally "I tried meditation but couldn't ever do it right"

These are the responses I get most often when I suggest meditation as an adjunct to therapy.  Let me reassure you that you don't have to make extraordinary efforts to still your mind, you don't have to spend alot of time at it, and you don't even have to sit on the floor in the lotus position!  There are several different meditation techniques and simple introductions to each practice.  The key is to find the practice that suits you so that you can stay with it long enough to experience the positive benefits.  Some of these benefits are reduction of  anxiety, better sleep, increase in mental clarity, improved health conditions (i.e. heart conditions, fibromyalgia, and hypertension), increased frustration tolerance, improved mood, increased pain management, and spiritual growth.  The die-hard habits of negative self-talk, constant critical comparison, judgment of self and others, feelings of dissatisfaction, chronic low level anger or tension can be changed.

Meditation increases self-esteem, self-acceptance, openess, a calm balanced, focused mind, and inner strength.  If you are already a seasoned Meditator, we can  incorporate journaling of your sittings into our sessions to deepen the therapeutic process.  If you are new to meditation, I can introduce you to the process as part of our therapeutic work, if you choose.  It really is simple, and there is no wrong way.  Contact me if you would like to set up an appointment or have further questions.
